Overview
Martijn de Wolf is an independent hair stylist working inside Salon Venus in Wassenaar, with a clientele that is largely expat. The site replaced a WordPress install that carried no meta descriptions and nothing a search engine could read as a local business. It puts all sixteen treatments and their prices on a single page, in seven languages, and runs without cookies.
The brief

What they needed

The old site was thin and two years stale: prices on one page, treatments on another, and no address, phone or opening hours a search engine could read. Martijn wanted one page a client could scan before booking, in the languages his clientele actually reads, with WhatsApp as the way to reach him.

What we built

The work, piece by piece

The whole price list, on the homepage
01

The whole price list, on the homepage

All sixteen treatments with prices, grouped into cutting, colour, treatments and bridal. The client's own note drove this: a shortlist made it look like that was all he did.

Seven languages on real URLs
02

Seven languages on real URLs

Dutch at the root, six more on their own localised paths, each with its own title, description and hreflang. Built for the expat clientele, not machine translated in the browser.

Google reviews, honestly framed
03

Google reviews, honestly framed

Three real reviews quoted verbatim above the public rating, linked to the listing. The rating is shown but never marked up, because self reported review markup breaches Google's guidelines.

Local business data search can read

Local business data search can read

Address, geo, opening hours, phone and all sixteen treatments as HairSalon structured data. The old site had none of it.

How it was built

The approach

Astro, fully static, no database and no server runtime, on Netlify. The interesting decisions were about restraint. The Google rating is displayed and linked but deliberately not marked up as aggregateRating, because Google treats self reported review markup on your own site as self serving. Six written treatment descriptions the client did not want on the page live in the OfferCatalog instead, so search engines read them without a pixel changing. Images were cut from 4.9 MB to 445 KB by sizing each one to what the CSS actually displays.

The outcome

Live in August 2026 on the client's own domain, with the old WordPress URLs redirected and its four default pages removed from the index. Analytics are cookie free, so the site needs no consent banner.
